Welcome to St. Breward Primary School

A warm welcome to St. Breward Primary School’s website which aims to provide visitors with all the information they need to help them understand the ethos of our school, the activities our pupils participate in and upcoming events we have planned.

On 1st October 2018, St. Breward Community Primary School became part of the North Cornwall Learning Trust (NCLT). This Multi Academy Trust was formed by the joining of four primary schools (Camelford, Otterham, St. Breward and St .Teath) and our local secondary school, Sir James Smith’s. This formation cements the already close working relationship between the schools and paves the way for increased collaboration focusing on raising aspirations, attainment and increased opportunities for the children within our schools.

As a school we are passionate about taking children out to explore their local environment (Cornwall) and discover what it has to offer to enrich their learning experiences.  For children living in this beautiful but remote part of the country it is important to broaden their horizons.

A great emphasis is also placed on children learning using the outdoor environment around the school. The grounds have recently been developed to provide a range of opportunities for use throughout the curriculum. Our outdoor learning area is going from strength to strength, a range of play equipment is installed, new playground markings and seating areas are provided for children’s use and enjoyment.

The children here enjoy a huge range of after school clubs that change from season to season. Some regular opportunities include Dance, Tag Rugby, Netball, Lego, Gardening, Football, Athletics, Cookery, Orienteering, and Art Club. Sport has always featured highly at St. Breward and as a result of specialist teaching we have had many successes in local competitions over the years, particularly in Tag Rugby, Football and Netball.

The school employs specialist teachers to deliver a range of other subjects including French and PSHE. This ensures that the creative curriculum is taught effectively on a regular basis.

The KS2 children take part in residential experiences, which this year is a 3 day "glamping" experience taking part in outdoor adventure activities in Porth Pean Activity Centre. In the past they have ventured to the far off country of Wales and experienced life in the capital city, Cardiff. These experiences work wonders on the hidden, but vital attributes of self-esteem, independence, confidence and organisational skills.

I do hope this gives you a flavour of what we are about here at St. Breward CP School but why not pop in and see for yourself!

Kind regards

Ruth Moore
